Take the words not the faces

By Lindelwa Tshabalala

Let’s say you see an old drunken man who comes to you as you buy a bottle of beer with your friends, “Child, Don’t do that! It will destroy you!” Probably many of us will roll our eyes and continue buying-Like; he’s drunk and he’s telling you not to- come on! But that’s where we get it all wrong! We take a look at faces not at the words offered by them.

It might happen that person is now forced to drink because of medical reasons. The next thing is you look like him few years down the lane! Listening skills are very important in our lives it part of reason we have newspapers and other media tools because at times a message can’t be delivered with just a voice because we don’t listen much so we end up given papers to read which can be kept as reminders. I’ve come to realize how much I judge [people at first sight-as for me I’ll say it’s my nature but as from the past days I’ve decided to allow myself to learn something new from each and every person I meet, no matter how they look. Looks are deceiving. A proper looking person may be the one who kill dreams, the one who actually knows less! I would advice you to once or twice have a chat with that old lady in the taxi- Yes, even if you are the hottest sixteen year old boy! Talk to that guy who’s always at the corner or at the shop. For myself I learnt that they had dreams too just like you and I I would advice you to once or twice have a chat with that old lady in the taxi- Yes, even if you are the hottest sixteen year old boy! Some had given up and most of them are still striving for them .Oh, yes they are eager to talk and advice you! Then just for interest’s sake also have a chat with that ‘clean’ person you know-compare the conversations. I hope you learn a lesson.
